More SPRING Wifey Cleaning March 27, 2009

Oh the never ending list of SPRING CLEANING PROJECTS! Put on your Carolyn’s Kitchen Apron and gloves, or bust our your most wife favorite apron from Heavenly Hostess, put on some good tunes and START CLEANING!

Tip #1: Cleaning the Microwave….So the hubby let a few things over cook, boil over, explode or maybe even spill in your microwave…a quick clean is all it needs. Use a microwave safe plastic bowl, fill it 3/4 full with hot water, cut one full lemon into slices and place them in the bowl. Put the bowl (with the lemons) in the microwave on high for at least 5 minutes (may need longer depending on your microwave or mess). The steam (and fresh lemon scent) will make wiping up the spills an easy task (no heavy scrubbing) and the lemons will deodorize the space.  Wife Wonderful!

woman-tool-beltWEEKEND WIFE WARRIOR (on a small project scale)! This wife spent most of the weekend tackling home improvement projects with her hubby! Some may think our accomplishments were small but in our little world, they were HUGE!

Knowing that many wives assist with home projects (and if you don’t wives, get your hands dirty and learn, all those little tasks add up to valuable home improvement wife lessons), this wife thought it would be vital to share a few key lessons learned (and areas to improve on).

1) Hubby’s are great, but sometimes they need a little WIFE motivation (don’t be afraid to request the Honey-Do List actually get done, the TV and couch will still be waiting when they return)! hammer

2) Don’t be afraid to ask questions at the home improvement store. Hubby’s like to figure things out on their own; however, wives despise wasting time, JUST ASK that is what the staff is their for!

3) Use a tape measure (at least double check your hubby’s work). Even when the wife asks “Honey, did you measure that closet space so we know what size shelving to get?” If he replies “Yeah” ask to see the measurements. Nothing like spending an hour putting together a shelving unit (that costs $45.00) to find out the hubby didn’t measure when he said he did. When questioned as to how the measurements could have been that far off, if the response is “well I kinda eye-balled it” you are heading back to the store.

tape_measure4) Remember to take a break and appreciate what the wife has! So often during weekend projects, the frustration level goes through the roof. Be grateful their is a house to do projects on and their is a hubby to assist you with them (even if his handy skills are not yet to pro-level).

5) Motivated to do more! Find your home needs more than one weekend of hard work! Visit Norma Vally at Chix Can Fix for more tips and guidance!

A Fast Fix for the Wife October 18, 2008

I have found being a wife means you have become many things, especially to your husband. One of these things is a “Professional WIFE Problem Solver”. I love it when my husband walks up to me with his shirt in one hand and the button that fell off in the other, and with him comes this look of complexity and simplicity all in the same moment. He knows if he looks confused and concerned he has turned this rather simple but time consuming task into my hands! Ha and they think we don’t know what they are doing (the wife is smart, and she is quick)!

Little does he know I have the best “button-fell-off” trick up my adorable wife sleeve! FAST FIX BUTTONS! Fast Fix Buttons are a simple (but rather creative) solution to fixing a missing button! Keep them in your purse, at your desk at work or in your home (mine live in my “junk-drawer”)! Just pin and go! No one ever knows it was a quick wife fix!

Not every wife enjoys time in the kitchen, but for those of us who do, it is a great way to make a fashion statement. I have many aprons…cooking apron, grilling apron, crafting apron, cute-wife-in-the-kitchen apron, hosting a party apron! I have an apron for just about every kitchen occasion. I think an adorable apron is a way to brightenthe whole “wife-in-the-kitchen” mood and really puts a bounce in my wifey step! So many styles, so many fabrics and so many ways to add an apron to your “fashion” collection!

I recently did a very “wife” thing! I threw a party at my home! I enjoyed it for many reasons. For starters, what better way to spend an entire evening than with a group of women who are all inspiring and good friends; not to mention how great it was to showcase the new “home” all put together with husband and wife touches! It was also great because I finally had a chance to use all those great wedding gifts (wine glasses, party serving platters, chip & dip dishes, and more)!

I was the hostess of a Pampered Chef party! It was a “cooking show” party and I have to tell you it was great! Not only did the other wives and I have some GREAT wife bonding, but we learned new recipes, we cooked, we snacked, we told stories and we were introduced to some AMAZING cooking tools and accessories!

Hosting a party may not be something for you, but every wife loves to browse! So I send you to the Pampered Chef online shop! They have adorable dishware, cute cooking tools and tons of cookbooks! Perfect timing for some pre-holiday shopping for friends and family!

When it comes to clutter, piles and always fighting to keep your home clean and organized…you are not alone! Millions, like myself, struggle to find the balance of both personal time and home “cleanliness” time. There is so much always going on…work, workouts, school, and grocery lists, shopping lists, coffee at the shop with the girls, snuggle time with the hubby, meals to cook, bills to pay…Aahhh.

Many of us are taking on to much all at once, getting overwhelmed and then quickly giving up. Leaving the messes waiting, and the situation getting worse. Thank goodness for a friendly wife who shared her good news with me one day. She recommended Flylady.net! It was also recommended to her by another wife who claimed it was her saving grace when it came time to saving her home from her “piles” and “clutter”!

It starts with a “30-Day” Clutter Recovery program! As a new member of FlyLady, you are started out on baby steps. Nothing to overwhelm you but just enough to get you going in the right direction! After you initial 30 days (which all of the information is FREE), you can venture to other areas of the site with more advice and recommendations. You can also sign up for FlyLady Email Notifications and they are GREAT! The perfect touch of motivation and just get it done! Love this sweet “FLY” Lady!

While you are the site, check out all the merchandise, books and goodies! Could be a good Holiday Gift for the new “wife” in your life!

Martha Stewart Home Handbook

Martha Stewart Home Handbook

As a new wife, I have quickly learned that just because you married a man, does not mean you married a “handy”man. Don’t get me wrong, there are many handy things my husband can do…but for the 100,000 he can’t…I was given this book from another smart wife that has been there and done that!

Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook is the quintessential tool you will need to repair, fix, patch or simply create anything for your home! If the book were smaller in size, I would simply drop it in my purse and carry it with me where ever my wifey heart could roam. Oh Martha, what would all of us wives do without you!

The Being Wife “Book Club”gives Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook 4.5 out of 5 “Honey I’m Home” High-Fives! So get out there, buy one!
