Love to Love: #11 The Pioneer Woman January 31, 2010

This wife is making a confession…I often look into other wives worlds and think to myself…WOW…what an amazing wife; her hubby was one lucky guy! Do you ever do that? Check out other wives feel a little disappointed in your wife-self? Clearly (like any wife should assume) your husband loves you just the way you are; however, in the case that this isn’t the case, I will refrain from introducing my husband to Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman (and more than likely the perfect wife)!

I was first introduced to The Pioneer Woman over the Holiday Season. Another amazing wife (my mother) mentioned she had purchased a cooking/inspirational book for her friend and after looking through it, thought it was something I would like. She let me look at the book and…instant wife love! It was adorable, modern yet traditional. It was full of amazing photos and amazing recipes. It was also full of the kind of spirit I can only hope this wife carries with her.

Within days of looking through the book I was nearly obsessed! Then I headed to her website and was nearly blown away! Her story is neat, her love for husband and family is something worth admiring and on top of that, she is ridiculously adorable! Cute as a bugs ear!

If you adore cooking, baking or simply spending time in the kitchen with family and friends…purchase The Pioneer Woman Cooks! If you want to learn about life with an inspirational woman, check out Ree’s site!

Being Wife, Being Vegetarian January 5, 2010

A New Year, A New Wife. This is my only “New Year’s Resolution”. It is simple yet focused. It is easy, and will only be as difficult as I make it. A New Year, A New Wife!

One of the New Year, New Wife agenda’s is to work slowly (but surely) at becoming a vegetarian. In the last few months a handful of things happened.

This wife read, The Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan.

Then this wife watched, Food, Inc. a documentary

Finally this wife read, Skinny B**ch (sorry for the language but that really is the title of the book).

All of these small but significant events have lead me to believe I at least need to try. I have been working on it for the past two weeks with mostly full dedication and I can already feel the changes in this wife’s body.

My husband (the very good sport that he is) is making a good effort to at least participate in a few of this wife’s crazy trials for a couple nights a week. Last night was “Meatless Monday” at our house and we had the most AMAZING Portobello Mushrooms. Check out the recipe!

Through the next year, as we try new vegetarian recipes, I will be inclined to share with you if they are good or bad! If you want to join my little Being Wife Vegetarian Band Wagon (LOL) you can start where I did at Go Veg!

More New Year, New Wife to come!

A few Wife “clean bathroom” tricks! March 28, 2009

scrub-brushThe bathroom seems to be a never ending battle in this wife’s home. The hubby has yet to break a few old habits and it shows (DAILY). So how to make the cleaning process simple after your one big DEEP SPRING clean? Wife easy!

That yucky shower curtain liner (the clear one) looking dingy? You can do one of two things. First you can try putting it in the washing machine (no joke)! Wash the liner alone, on warm/cold  using a 1/2 cup of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, let it air dry. This is not a guarantee fix but it usually makes it much cleaner. If the liner comes out looking dingy still…time for a new one! They are usually inexpensive (between $2-10) to replace. oneminutecleaner

Although I am sure there are many wives out there that love good old fashion BAR SOAP, make your bathroom process cleaner by using liquid soap (use a refillable dispenser). The big perk to the switch…no more hard to scrub soap scum!

one-year-womens-friendship-book1Greeting wife fans…books are such wonderful wife things! They can change your mood, give you a break, inspire you and maybe even make you a better wife! This is the case with The One Year Women’s Friendship Devotional by Cheri Heath Fuller and Sandra P. Aldrich!

I picked this book up a while back on a trip to Barnes & Nobles. Browsing past the tables, the bright cheerful cover caught my eye and I picked it up and flipped through it. This wife gave it 5-Wife HIGH FIVES for many reasons, 1 it will give me something to read for the next year (on a daily basis), 2 it will teach me to be a better person and 3, I know my friendships with all my other wife friends will be stronger and more fulfilling.

And the wife shall BAKE! January 8, 2009

bakedOh the WIFE BOOK CLUB! WHAT FUN! BAKED will be a NEW addition to my rather ridiculous wife book collection…as soon as this little wife gets it and bakes with it, all the wives out there will be the FIRST to know how it held up in my wife kitchen!

If you currently are a wife who owns this particular book and want to share your comments, wife feedback is always appreciated! :)

TURKEY DAY Tip #4: I Like You!i-like-you

In the midst of all your big WIFE Turkey Dinner planning, find some entertaining party tips with Amy Sedaris’s “I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence”!

Here is a quick insert from Amy’s book: Chapter One

“Whether you live in a basement with the income of a ten-year-old girl or on a saffron farm in the south of Spain, the spirit of hospitality is the same. It’s the giving of yourself, a present of you to them from me for us. “Hello, and I like you.” This is what you’re saying when you invite somebody into your home, without having to hear yourself say it out loud. This colorfully illustrated book (see pictures) is my attempt to share with you something I take very seriously: entertaining in my home, my style. It may not be the proper way, or the most traditional, or even legal, but it works for me. I can’t write good, but I can cook even better and I am willing to share with you my sackful of personal jackpot recipes that, because of their proven success, I continue to make, over and over again. I will also show you ways to plan, present, and participate in self-award-winning parties.”

To appreciate this book you really need to have a good sense of wife humor! It is full of little funnies, side remarks and all kinds of quirky little comments that will not only make entertaining fun, but you can bust a wife-gut while you are reading this handy-dandy book! The Being Wife Book Club gives “I Like You” by Amy Sedaris a 5 out of 5 “Honey I’m Home High-Fives”!

Pick a copy up today to make your Thanksgiving Holiday planning and entertaining even more fun!

Martha Stewart Home Handbook

Martha Stewart Home Handbook

As a new wife, I have quickly learned that just because you married a man, does not mean you married a “handy”man. Don’t get me wrong, there are many handy things my husband can do…but for the 100,000 he can’t…I was given this book from another smart wife that has been there and done that!

Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook is the quintessential tool you will need to repair, fix, patch or simply create anything for your home! If the book were smaller in size, I would simply drop it in my purse and carry it with me where ever my wifey heart could roam. Oh Martha, what would all of us wives do without you!

The Being Wife “Book Club”gives Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook 4.5 out of 5 “Honey I’m Home” High-Fives! So get out there, buy one!
