When it comes to clutter, piles and always fighting to keep your home clean and organized…you are not alone! Millions, like myself, struggle to find the balance of both personal time and home “cleanliness” time. There is so much always going on…work, workouts, school, and grocery lists, shopping lists, coffee at the shop with the girls, snuggle time with the hubby, meals to cook, bills to pay…Aahhh.

“Fall” for each other (with great closet space)! September 29, 2008

Happy Happy Fall! Now that it’s official, it gives us reason to celebrate! For most of us (with the exception of those lucky sun-soakers) it’s time to pack up those short-shorts, swim-suits (thank goodness we don’t have to look at one of those for another year), skinny tanks and bust out the warm wools, comforting cardigans and layers of fabric! Fall fashion is so fun and even better, what a perfect time of year to revamp that closet space! As a new wife, it is easy to find limited closet space (no matter what type of home you have); take the next couple of evenings to toss out the old summer clothes (donate them to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army) order some pizza and make room for new fall fashion! This is a great couples project!

Being a new wife means taking on more responsibilities in the “home”. Which can mean one of two things, it can mean more chores, or it can mean being more creative with your chores! I stumbled across a website today I instantly added to my “favorites”! It is Homemadesimple.com; it is maintained by Procter & Gamble (that wonderful little place that makes all the necessary tools we need to keep a clean and fresh smelling home)!  It is home to tons of tips, ideas and guides for all your easy and somewhat difficult home cleaning/organizing projects! It even has some great entertaining ideas! Check it out!

As a new wife, I have quickly learned that just because you married a man, does not mean you married a “handy”man. Don’t get me wrong, there are many handy things my husband can do…but for the 100,000 he can’t…I was given this book from another smart wife that has been there and done that!

Martha Stewart’s Homekeeping Handbook is the quintessential tool you will need to repair, fix, patch or simply create anything for your home! If the book were smaller in size, I would simply drop it in my purse and carry it with me where ever my wifey heart could roam. Oh Martha, what would all of us wives do without you!

Had my cake and ate it (with my new husband)… September 14, 2008

We all know how funny life is…the little surprises…the moments when you literally take a step back and say to yourself “is this my life?”…we all know it is true…and it was more than true for me on my wedding day! My wedding was a day full of emotions…but looking back I truly think I was in a state of “numb”. I felt like I was walking slow and everything was fluttering around me. That is until my new husband and I went to cut our cake. It was the first moment when I felt this feeling of defeat. A guest walking by said to my husband, “Congrats to you and the WIFE!” The ping in my chest is still throbbing. “The WIFE” this is what he called me, “The WIFE”?!? I went from an out-of-the-box individual, proud to be who she was, soaring above the crowd, making a name for herself woman to…The WIFE.

My husband thought nothing of the comment, high-fives all around, we cut the cake, feed each other, smiled for the camera and kept moving. However, for me it was a reality check…a flash of gasping for air in the smothering echoes of “the wife…the wife…the wife…”! I made a move in the chess game of life that took me, the queen, out and left the King standing…had I done the right thing? Had I made a mistake…?

To answer my last question, NO I did not make a mistake; but for someone who has enjoyed randomly beating her own drum to whatever rhythm she feels like for the past 28 years, finding a beat to share with my new husband has been a challenge, but a good one. Although our adventure is still NEW…being a wife is going to take some adjusting…and I am glad to be sharing this adventure with you!
